How to Research Keywords for Effective Blog Post SEO

Look into Related Search Items:

If you find yourself at an impasse while thinking of new keywords, try looking at the suggested related searches at the bottom of the page when you enter a keyword. These keywords can in turn lead to more relevant keywords after some thought and effort. To go a step further, look at related searches to the suggestions from the first search. This will give you more keywords and an idea of how to refine your original keywords.

Have a Mixture of Head Terms and Long Tailed Keywords in Each Bundle:

Head terms usually consist of one to three words and are general in nature. Long-tailed keywords are generally more specific searches containing 3 or more words. Head terms are generally tricky in terms of ranking, as people tend to search for general words. Conversely, long tailed keywords will get you the desired traffic because they are more specific in nature. Someone with that much specification in a search is more qualified to buy your product or service. The idea is to have a mix of head terms and long tailed keywords that will then be used to arrive at the most appropriate search terms. This is a later step and will be possible through the help of analytical tools like Google Adwords Keyword Planner. Google Trends will also be a helpful tool to get an idea of trending keywords but again that is a later step. For now, creating a balanced mix is the main concern.

Check Competitor Rankings:

It’s important to know what keywords competitors are ranking against and to use that information to reevaluate your own keywords. Work more on keywords that are common between you and your competitors. At the same time, don’t ignore keywords your competitor may not consider to capture your own market. A manual google search for keywords can show you your competitors’ rankings.

Cut Down Your Keywords List:

Now that you have evaluated your keywords, it’s time to trim them down. A good way to do this is to use Google Adwords Keyword Planner. This will give you search volume estimates for each keyword you plan on using so you can cut out those with very high or very low search volume. Also, use Google trends to get an idea of the keyword trends you need to follow. Take, for example, Internet Providers in my Area. It may use head terms (satellite internet) and long-tailed key phrases (where can I find satellite internet providers). After a trend examination, it may even add keywords like “best satellite internet” or “find the best satellite internet”.

And that’s it! You now have a list of actionable keywords that you can use for effective SEO blogging and improve your digital performance. Obviously, the process itself is not as simple as this blog but if you follow it you will arrive at the desired results. The specifics of keywords research may differ from business to business.
